What is this?
This tracker lists activity in the US Congress whose text mentions Pakistan, Pakistani, Islamabad, Balochistan or Kashmir: bills and resolutions, published committee hearings, and sections of the Congressional Record (floor speeches, statements and inserted remarks).
- Where it comes from. Items are found with the full-text search of GovInfo (U.S. Government Publishing Office). Each bill’s sponsor, latest action and progress come from the Congress.gov API (Library of Congress). Every item links to its official page.
- “Mentions” is not “about”. A large bill such as a defence authorisation may mention Pakistan once. Items with a keyword in the title are marked in the title; use “Keyword in the title only” to see just those.
- Stages. Introduced: filed and referred to committee. Committee action: a hearing, markup or report. Passed the House / Senate: approved by that chamber. Became law: signed (or enacted over a veto). Simple and concurrent resolutions are agreed to instead. Stages are read from the official action list; Congress.gov is the authoritative record.
- Timing. New items are looked for several times a day and statuses are refreshed daily. Hearing transcripts are often published months after the hearing, under their publication date.
- Notes. A CUPA note is our own short comment. Inclusion does not mean CUPA supports or opposes a measure.
