Terms of use
The terms for using the Centre’s website: how you may share and reuse our work and data, what you send us, and the limits of our responsibility.
This page is being finalised. A few details, such as the organisation’s registered name and address, are still to be confirmed.
About these terms
These terms apply to your use of cupa.org.pk, the website of the Center for US-Pakistan Affairs (CUPA, "the Centre", "we"). The website is run by [Legal name of the organisation], registration number [Registration number], whose registered address for notices is [Registered address for notices].
By using the website you agree to these terms. They take effect on [Effective date]. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
Using the website
You are welcome to read, search, download and share what we publish. When you use the site, please do not:
- break the law, or use the site to harm, harass or deceive anyone;
- try to get into the admin portal, other people's information or parts of the site that are not public;
- interfere with the site, for example by overloading it, spreading malware or getting round its security;
- send automated requests at a rate that slows the site for others (search engines and research tools that respect our robots.txt file are welcome);
- pretend to be the Centre or one of its staff, or suggest that we endorse you when we do not.
Our content and how you can reuse it
Unless a page says otherwise, the text, images, design and logos on this website belong to the Centre or to the authors and photographers we work with, and all rights are reserved. Within that:
- Sharing and quoting. You may link to any page, and quote short extracts in your own work, as long as you credit "Center for US-Pakistan Affairs" (and the author, where named) and link to the original page.
- Personal, research and teaching use. You may download and print our publications for your own study, research and teaching.
- Data. Our trackers, the datasets in our data hub and the figures in the Provinces guide are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0), unless a dataset states a different licence. You may share and adapt them for any purpose, including commercially, if you credit CUPA, link to the licence and say what you changed.
- Journal articles. Articles in the Centre's journal are published under the licence shown on each article (by default CC BY 4.0). Their authors keep their copyright.
- Photographs and third-party material. Photographs and other material credited to someone else belong to them. Please ask them, not us, before reusing it.
- Our name and logo. Please do not use the Centre's name or logo in a way that suggests we support you, your organisation or your views, without our written permission.
To republish a full article, translate our work or reuse it in any other way, write to info@cupa.org.pk. We are usually glad to help.
Our publications
Our research, analysis and commentary are for general information. They are not legal, financial, investment or other professional advice, and you should not rely on them as such.
Views expressed in CUPA publications are those of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Centre. We work to keep our publications accurate and we date them, but facts and circumstances change after publication. If you find an error, please tell us at info@cupa.org.pk so that we can correct it.
What you send us
When you send us something, such as a message, an application, a pitch, a draft or a manuscript:
- you confirm that the information is accurate and that you have the right to send it to us, including any material created by other people;
- sending it does not oblige us to publish it or to reply in a particular way;
- if we agree to publish your work, the terms are agreed separately, for example in our contributor guidelines or the journal's policies.
If you send us ideas or feedback about the Centre or the website, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Links and embedded content
The website links to other websites and can play videos from YouTube and Vimeo. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. When you play a video, the provider's own terms apply.
Availability and changes
We provide the website as it is and as it is available. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, including publications and data, at any time and without notice. We do not promise that the site will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors.
Our responsibility to you
As far as the law allows, the Centre is not liable for any loss or damage that arises from using, or being unable to use, the website or anything published on it, including any reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law — Pakistan]. Any dispute about them, or about the website, is for the courts of [Governing law — Pakistan], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top of the page and describe the change in the version note. The terms in force when you use the website are the ones that apply.
