Thar coal

energy & resources. Also Thar coalfield

A large deposit of lignite, a low-grade coal, in the Tharparkar district of Sindh, estimated at roughly 175 billion tonnes. It is mined by the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company, a public–private venture majority-owned by the Sindh government, and burned in mine-mouth power plants; the first, of 660 MW, joined the grid in 2019 as Pakistan’s first plant running on domestic coal. Several Thar plants were built under CPEC.12
