The article of India’s Constitution that gave Jammu and Kashmir special autonomous status. On 5 August 2019 India revoked it and split the state into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Pakistan called the move illegal and contrary to UN Security Council resolutions; its National Security Committee downgraded diplomatic relations, expelled India’s High Commissioner and suspended bilateral trade. India says the matter is internal.12
