Markup

institutions. Also committee markup

The meeting at which a congressional committee or subcommittee goes through a bill, debates and votes on amendments, and decides whether to report it to the full House or Senate, and in what form. The committee does not change the text itself; it votes on the amendments it recommends to the chamber. Many bills, including most introduced on Pakistan, never reach a markup, so holding one is a sign that a bill is moving.12
