Appropriations act

aid & finance. Also appropriations bill

A law that provides federal agencies with budget authority, the legal power to commit and spend money, for a fiscal year. It differs from an authorisation act, which creates or continues programmes and may suggest funding levels but does not itself provide money. Congress passes twelve regular appropriations bills each year, often combined into one large bill; US aid to Pakistan is mainly funded through the one for the State Department and foreign operations.12
