Siachen Glacier

geography. Also Siachen, Siachen conflict

A glacier in the eastern Karakoram, north of the point NJ9842 where the Line of Control as drawn in 1949 and 1972 ends, beyond which the line was never demarcated. India took control of the glacier and most of the adjoining Saltoro Ridge in April 1984; Pakistani forces hold positions to the west. Both armies have maintained troops at extreme altitude since, often called the world’s highest battlefield. It is one of the subjects of the Composite Dialogue.12
