A narrow strip of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, roughly 350 kilometres long and 13 to 65 kilometres wide, that runs east to a short border with China and separates Tajikistan in the north from Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral in the south.
