Publication process

The stages a manuscript goes through, from submission to publication.

  1. Submission. Authors submit through the online form and receive a manuscript ID and a private status link by email.
  2. Desk review. The editors check the manuscript’s fit with the journal and its readiness for review.
  3. Peer review. Suitable manuscripts are sent to at least two independent reviewers under double-blind review.
  4. Decision. The editors decide to accept, request revisions or reject, and send the authors a decision letter with the reviewers’ comments.
  5. Revision. Authors revise their manuscript and explain their changes in a response letter. Revised manuscripts may be reviewed again.
  6. Acceptance. Once accepted, authors are asked to confirm the final version and the licence.
  7. Production. The article is copy-edited and typeset, and the authors check and approve the proofs.
  8. Publication. The article is published online in an issue, with its own page, a PDF and citation information.

Authors can follow every stage on their private status page, and are emailed when the status of their manuscript changes.
