Before you submit
Please make sure that your manuscript:
- fits the journal’s aims and scope, which are set out on the journal’s home page
- is original, has not been published before and is not under consideration by another journal
- has been read and approved by all of its authors
- follows the author and formatting guidelines
Article types and lengths
- Research article: original research, usually 7,000 to 10,000 words including notes and references.
- Policy analysis: an evidence-based analysis of a current policy question, usually 4,000 to 6,000 words.
- Review essay: a critical review of recent literature on a theme, usually 4,000 to 6,000 words.
- Book review: a review of a recent book, usually 1,000 to 2,000 words.
- Commentary: a short, argued piece on a current development, usually 2,000 to 3,000 words.
Longer manuscripts may be considered where the argument requires it; please explain why in your cover letter.
What to send
Submit through the online submission form. You will need:
- an anonymised manuscript as a PDF or Word file (up to 15 MB), with author names, affiliations, acknowledgements and any self-identifying references removed
- the title, abstract and keywords
- the names, affiliations and email addresses of all authors, with ORCID iDs if you have them
- an optional cover letter for the editors
- your declarations: originality, competing interests, ethics and any use of AI tools
When your submission arrives you will receive an email with a manuscript ID and a private link where you can follow its progress.
